My name is Shannon Packham and I am running for MLA for The Independence Party in the Drumheller Stettler Constituency.I was born in Southeastern Saskatchewan, raised in Southwestern Manitoba and moved to Alberta in 1996 for greater opportunity for our family. My husband and I have 7 children, collectively, his, mine, ours and an adopted son from Liberia, who we raised as our own. As our family grows, we are the proud grandparents of 19 grandchildren, the oldest of with are 16 and 17 and the youngest is just over three months.Although I have been a teacher for 28 years and have held a lot of different rolls in my life, right from the board room to the football field and training hockey players in minor hockey as well as in the AJHL, the most important job I have ever had is being a mother and now a grandmother. My grandchildren are counting on me to continue the battle for their futures. Yours too.You may recognize my name from the Freedom Movement when the Covid Debacle set in as I was not secretive in my voice against all of the mandates and abuses set upon the people of this province by the governments of the day. I spent some time in Coutts during the blockade and can honestly tell you that my experience their restored some of my faith in the people of this province in what we can accomplish if we stand together. You may also recognize my name from the work I did with the Alberta Prosperity Project in advocating engaging with and educating Albertans on the merits of a free and independent Alberta. My reasons for running in this election are many, yet I will choose only a few. First, my children and my grandchildren and my fear of what the future holds for them if I do nothing. The Second, your children and your grandchildren and what the future holds for them if I do nothing. Third but not last, this province and its current governments have lost their way. They have forgotten that they actually work for the people and WE basically sign their paychecks. They have forgotten that "we the people" are who they work for, NOT their party, NOT the party whip and certainly not the WEF, UN or those who they serve in Ottawa. We need to bring common sense back into our governing bodies (at all levels, really) reduce the bloat at the top and rebuild from a solid foundation of Albertans for ALL Albertans. The biggest issue facing this constituency right now...there are about eight pages of them so far and that came from walking down two streets. I will give you a list.Lack of medical professionals. This is a blanket term which encompasses a broad spectrum of professionals right from doctors, nurses, HCAs, to service staff such as admins and cleaning staff, EMTs, EMRs, firefighters and specialized medical professionals such as OTs, anesthesiologists, mental health care and this list could go on for pages. We need to recruit, train, retain and look at alternative healthcare options, such as holistic health to address these problems.Education and the need for teachers and educational assistants, professionals for mental health, occupational therapists, speech therapists and etc. are really, really lacking. We need to recruit, train, retain and look at alternatives for these as well. I guess, off the cuff, if the government of the day hadn't mandated unnecessary injections for these professionals there may be less of a "shortage." I was not inside a school from February 2020 until last fall for this very reason. The government of the day had NO right to force that on any of us, anywhere and we must continue to advocate against that.If elected by the end of my first term, I would hope that I will have seriously rebuilt the bridge of unity and community with my constituents. A strong Alberta is one where we work together for a common goal. For me that is prosperity and independence for ALL Albertans not just a few. We need to protect our property rights, including firearms ownership under property rights, protect our land and water rights, protect wholeheartedly our oil and gas sector and all aspects of ranching and our agriculture, I will work hard to combat government overreach from the East. That isn't happening at the moment because of the "Party Whip." These legacy parties have to do what they are told and I will be able to use my voice to vote with my conscience.I am here to give people an option for a conservative vote. Conservative Christian values with no party whip. The time of two party politics is over. People no longer need to choose "the lesser of two evils." I am a strong conservative voice of the people for the people. Truthfully, I am MORE conservative than any of those in that party now!
Basically, at the end of the day, I just want to be the change I want to see in this world. Our legacies depend on that.(If I could have dinner with three people, I would choose my Gramma, she helped to raise me until I was three, my dad, who passed away in 2019, who along with my mom raised me from the time I was three and my oldest brother who lost a courageous battle with cancer in 2018. He always, always had my back. They gave great advice and I could sure use some of that now.)
If you or anyone wants more information, they can reach out to me by email or phone, it is always on. 403-363-0419.Kind regardsShannon Packham
